The Lesser Known Filler That Will Completely Change Your Skin

The extremes we go to get better skin are endless. Some of us slather on pricey skin care products, others treat their skin to regular facials, and a large majority head straight to the doctor’s office for the latest and greatest treatments and procedures.

But all of that may be changing as skinboosters popularity is on the rise.

Skinboosters™ work to improve the skin’s overall quality by boosting hydration levels deep inside the skin and increasing its smoothness, elasticity and firmness.

For years, injectables and dermal fillers have been heralded as the remedy for adding back lost volume to the face, filling in lines and wrinkles and even augmenting some facial features. The lesser-known but very exciting category of HA fillers are known as skinboosters.

Skinboosters are totally different from what you currently know fillers as in that they improve the skin texture and elasticity. Most dermal fillers address volume and not necessarily the skin.

Used in the face, hands, décolleté and neck, and injected into the top layer of skin, skinboosters work best on areas of skin that are covered in teeny, tiny lines, like the sides of the cheeks or the chin. “Injecting skin boosters causes bioremodeling of the skin, activating elastin and collagen production and improving the look of damaged or aged skin,” says New York plastic surgeon Haideh Hirmand, MD.

Visible improvements to the skin can be seen after just one treatment boosting hydration for a beautiful glow.

Injections can be done up to three times initially and then again every six months to maintain skin quality and see the most dramatic change.

While skinboosters and other cosmetic injectables perform different functions, they are commonly used together with Dermal Fillers and Wrinkle relaxers.

Skinboosters are available at SKYN® Subiaco from $350 per session or $300 per ml when two or more mls are used in the initial treatment. Love the skin you’re in™! Book a complimentary consultation with SKYN Talent today!

Skinboosters are a versatile and effective solution for skin concerns in the face, neck, décolletage and hands.

What’s better? THREAD LIFT or FILLERS

With an extensive menu of rejuvenation treatments now available, many are uncertain about the most suitable aesthetic treatment for their face. The issues facing those looking for non-surgical rejuvenation enhancement techniques are:

  1. what can be accomplished
  2. the downtime
  3. how long the results can last

The most popular face-enhancing, youth-reviving treatments in the last five years have been Dermal Fillers and Threadlifts. Their benefits in terms of reducing lines and wrinkles and lifting skin have different suitabilities, depending on what the client desires.

How Dermal Fillers work under your skin

Here is a quick rundown of what each of these aesthetic frontrunners do. Dermal Fillers are so called because they are made to fill the spaces in our skin which have lost volume with age, hereby showing signs of hollowness, lines and wrinkles. Most dermal fillers used nowadays are natural hyaluronic acid fillers, owing to their high safety profile and reversibility with a simple enzyme hyaluronidase. Owing to the advancements in dermal filler technology, fillers of different key strengths have emerged, each suited to deliver distinctive outcomes.

Dermal Fillers have a filling and sculpting capacity and can create enviable cheeks while restoring facial volume, while Skinboosters are targeted at replenishing the collagen stores of the superficial dermis, boosting their water content, immediately improving skin complexion.

How Threadlifts work under your skin

Threadlifts have undergone several positive revolutions; previous threads used were poorly made and not absorbable.

Latest innovations such as Silhouette Soft Thread Lift use 100% bio-absorbable threads that stimulate the formation of a supporting collagen matrix that will anchor the lift as the threads disappear in the upcoming months.

Silhouette Soft Thread Lift is famed for superb lifting capacity and utilises anchoring cones cleverly sited along lengthy Poly L-lactic acid threads and is known is the “Queen of all threadlifts”. If your aim is to have the maximal lift, then Silhouette would be the one for you.

While both of the above treatments may have their fair share of loyal followers, we have scientifically broken them down to their pros and cons. Bearing in mind that your aesthetic goal may be different from another person, the same goes for capacity for downtime, discomfort etc. While this may serve as a guide, nothing will replace a good heart-to-heart talk with your trusted aesthetic doctor. It helps to visit a clinic that offers both services, so you can be assured that their recommendation will not be biased (tainted by their restricted service menu) but rather be impartial.

Who’s Getting the Silhouette Soft Thread Lift?

The Silhouette Soft Thread Lift aka ‘the lunchtime lift’, is the non-surgical option for clients wanting a little extra help than wrinkle relaxers deliver, and the effects of a facelift without sedation, incisions or a hefty healing process.

It has been speculated that the contouring and lifting treatment is being used by celebs such as Kim Kardashian and Kylie Minogue – although unconfirmed, it certainly makes sense as the treatment delivers natural results, with minimal downtime to fit with busy schedules and allow for a more discrete approach.

On the other hand, some celebs are a little more candid. Simon Cowell is an advocate for the 21st Century treatment, as well as Katie Price, EastEnders actress Gillian Taylforth. The latest in the string of celebrity endorsements is Real Housewives of Cheshire star, Lauren Simon.

In a recent article via The Daily Mail, they revealed Lauren Simon’s motivation behind the dramatic makeover was to ensure she is looking and feeling her best, in an industry that demands perfection. The Silhouette Soft Thread Lift has enabled her to shift excess skin around her chin and jowl area and achieve a more streamlined look.

Regarding the treatment, she gushed about the results to The Daily Mail “I’ve always had quite a long shaped face, as I’ve got older I’ve had Botox and a little bit of filler. I’ve never liked the shape of my face [but now] I’ve had 1cm lifted and I have a heart-shaped face.” Lauren has also revealed that she is delighted with the re-vamp and appears to be exuding confidence with her new, youthful look.

The Silhouette Soft Thread Lift works by inserting very fine dissolvable thread cones into the subcutaneous layer of fat in your face. The treatment activates both lifting and regeneration effects – the threads lift tissue and contour, while the cones are absorbed and stimulate collagen for a plumper, more youthful appearance.

The lift can be used on the facial contour, lower jaw, cheeks and cheekbones, eyebrows and neck. The treatment typically takes around 30 minutes and all clients will receive a complimentary consultation with one of our highly skilled Doctors prior to the treatment, to ensure your face is in safe hands.

Currently, you can try the Silhouette Soft Thread lift starting from $990 for 2x Threads (Usually $1,500).

Non-Invasive Thread Lift: What to consider before having the treatment?

Medical treatments offered by aesthetic doctors are increasingly becoming more similar to those provided by plastic surgeons. These days, aesthetic doctors are able to provide less invasive anti-aging and skin lifting treatments with minimal downtime.

The thread lift procedure was initially introduced in the late 90s. However, it didn’t enjoy much popularity then because it caused too much trauma and pain for the patient. At that time, most people were not receptive of non-invasive thread lift and were not confident of the results. It fell out of favour until Sinclair Pharma PLC renewed the public’s interest of non-invasive thread lift in recent years.

While many people are still uncertain about the outcome of the non-surgical thread lift (sometimes known as “lunchtime face lift”), Dr. Siew Tuck Wah, Medical Director of Radium Medical Aesthetics, believes new technology and the convenience of non-invasive thread lift treatments are some reasons why the non-invasive thread lift procedure is gaining popularity as an alternative to face lift surgery.

Although not as radical as a surgical face lift, a non-invasive thread lift can lift sagging skin visibly, granting a more defined, v-shaped facial contour, thus making you look less tired with less downtime and at a lower cost.

Considering the procedure? Here’s what you need to know.

A non-surgical thread lift is a minimally invasive treatment usually done with local anesthesia or oral sedatives. Using absorbable sutures made from biodegradable material, the doctor uses these threads to lift and contour the face. Cones or barbs are present along the threads to anchor the sagging tissues under the skin.

Each thread is inserted under the skin at precise points using a fine needle. Attached to the fine threads are tiny cones or barbs that are responsible for lifting and tightening the sagging tissues under the skin. It effectively raises sagging skin in areas like the cheeks, jowls, mouth and neck to its new lifted position. At the same time, the cones stimulate collagen production in the treated areas over the next few months after the treatment.

It is perhaps better to consider non-surgical thread lift as a preliminary rejuvenative procedure as an anti-aging treatment, rather than a surgical alternative.

Silhouette Soft Threads lined with cones for anchoring sagging skin

Silhouette Soft Thread Lift uses resorbable sutures made of Poly L-Lactic acid (PLA) (also the same ingredient in Sculptra). PLA is a bio-compatible polymer that is used in a number of biomedical and pharmaceutical applications.

Using PLA monofilament with unique cones made of Lactide/Glycolide, the threads act as a scaffolding under the surface of the skin to lift sagging tissues. The cones are essential to anchor the sagging skin to lift the skin to its new, lifted position. At the same time, the cones stimulate the body’s production of collagen to replace loss volume which diminishes with age.

For the next few months post-treatment, your skin will continue its rejuvenative effects to restore volume to the face.

A Silhouette Soft Thread Lift procedure is performed under a local anesthetic.

Each thread mounted on a 25G needle, is inserted under the skin to guide the doctor to push the threads upwards until they are taut and embedded. During the process, the doctor pulls back the sagging skin and soft tissues and anchors them using the small cones that are found along the length of the threads in their new — more youthful — position.

Visible lifting can be seen immediately after the treatment.

You may notice some swelling or needle marks at the entry points on each side of the face. Although they may remain visible for 1–2 days, most people are able to cover them with makeup.

It is not uncommon to experience some bruising and swelling around the entry points. You may feel tender around the entry points but it should be resolved in about a week. Although your face may feel tight for a few days, it will relax and the result will gradually become more natural in a week.

As the threads are absorbable, they will dissolve in about 6 to 9 months after the treatment. However, the skin will remain in its lifted position for a further 12 to 18 months.

You may choose to repeat the treatment in about 18 months as the longevity of repeated treatments tend to be longer than the previous treatment.

Post-treatment care is important to ensure the efficacy of the treatment. Adhere to the following advice as much as possible:

  • Sleep on your back for the next 1 week after the procedure
  • Avoid facial massages and dental treatments for 1 month
  • No makeup for the next 48 hours
  • Go back to the doctor to address any dimpling or indentation at the entry or exit points

Silhouette Soft Thread Lift treatments only provide lifting of facial contours. However, when combined with other treatments such as INFINI Radiofrequency and Microneedling, elos Sublime IR Skin Tightening, or  Dermal Fillers to fill deficient areas, a thread lift can provide some truly outstanding cosmetic results.

Areas where Silhouette Soft Threads can achieve good lifting effects

The best candidates are young to middle-age people with mild to moderate sagging skin who want to soften their wrinkles and mild nasolabial folds. This anti-aging treatment is best suited for people who have apparent sagging skin with weak facial contours, but have sufficient collagen deposits to stimulate production.

Hinda, 45 years old, Mid face and Jaw Line

Areas that can benefit greatly from Silhouette Soft Thread Lift treatment are eyebrows, cheeks, jawline, and neck.

Although Silhouette Soft Thread Lift treatment can achieve wonderful lifting results, having realistic expectations are also essential. In most cases, the maximum lift that a thread lift can achieve is about 1 to 1.5cm. Threads do not work well for people with excessive sagging skin.

Arrange for a consultation with your doctor and discuss your needs and the results you expect. Your doctor will perform a thorough assessment of your skin condition, skin type, and bone structure before recommending the most suitable skin lifting treatment for you.

5 Steps to Better Skin for AW18

Baby, it’s cold outside! Winter weather can take its toll on your skin, but don’t worry – here are 5 tips to help keep your skin as soft as possible for AW18.

Add extra moisture.

Even if you consistently hydrate your skin, consider moisturizing more often or even switching to a heavier moisturizer during these cold days. Our Hydrate Luxe may be one to check out –its balm-like texture helps provide extra-rich moisturization. Both Hydrate and Hydrate Luxe feature the ingredient Hydromanil and can deliver moisture that lasts throughout the day.

While you’re at it, remember to keep your lips hydrated with a moisturizing lip balm with skin protecting ingredients to help prevent chapping.

Stay warm.

Pretty obvious, right? But still essential. Do what you can to remain warm this winter: this means bundling up when you go outside, heating your house/room when necessary, and using a humidifier if you live in a dry climate. Your skin will thank you for taking this easy step in these colder months!

Up the fatty acids in your diet.

Foods that contain a good dose of healthy fats – including almonds, walnuts, salmon, and olive oil – may help keep your skin hydrated. These are also superfoods that can help your heart health…so they’ll work double duty for you in winter!

Cool it with the baths.

Baths can be very relaxing and warming when it’s so cold out, but try to limit them this winter, and keep the water warm – not hot. Using hot water in your bath or shower can actually break down the lipid barriers in skin, which may result in moisture loss and can dry out your skin.

Don’t forget sunscreen!

Just because you can’t see the sun as much in winter doesn’t mean it can’t affect your skin. In fact, UVA sun rays (which can penetrate into deeper levels of the skin and contribute to skin aging) are present year-round and can pierce through glass and clouds. So, when we say it’s best to use a broad spectrum sunscreen every day, we mean EVERY DAY – winter included.

There you go – these 5 easy steps may make a difference between dry, chapped skin and more hydrated, softer skin this winter.

K-Beauty in Perth, Silhouette Soft Thread Lift

Women in South Korea, who seriously know a thing or two about beauty, are smitten about the non-surgical face lift technique called “thread lifting”.

  • Takes about half an hour
  • Known as the ‘non-surgical face lift’
  • Polylactic acid thread goes through skin after local anaesthetic injections
  • Stimulates collagen to firm the skin and visibly lift the face without surgery
  • Can combine with other treatments to optimise results and cater to the client’s desired outcomes

The technique, also known as the ‘non-surgical facelift’ has made its way to Australia. This is one of our signature treatments. Our Doctors explain the fascinating process, which has been created for both men and women who are trying to achieve their best skin, with natural results. The treatment aims to obtain volumisation, lifting and skin tightening – in any area the sutures are placed.

How Does it Work?

Silhouette Thread Lift works by inserting threads and cones in areas along the face, which are then absorbed and help to stimulate collagen which firms the skin, plus visibly lifting the face without surgery. The entire treatment is performed with only local anaesthetic, so the downtime is minimal. The threads are made of a clear absorbable Poly Lactic Acid and have eight, twelve or sixteen absorbable cones. These cones break down in about twelve to eighteen months, but the results of the lift can last somewhere up to two to three years.

Although the threading technique isn’t exactly new, Silhouette Threads are a revolutionary technology. Our Doctors can combine procedures for maximum results, which is pretty interesting. Our Doctors often follow up the thread lift with Dermal fillers to replace lost volume, especially in temples and cheeks. For an extra boost, another option for clients is to follow up with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment (similar to the vampire facial – in which you inject your own blood to stimulate your collagen production).

Silhouette Soft Thread Lift – “The non-surgical face lift” in the Media

The Silhouette Soft Thread Lift, aka “the non-invasive face lift”, “the lunchtime face lift” or “the non-surgical face lift” has been gaining a lot of buzz in the media. With UK blog Save Face praising the technique and referring to it as a Star Treatment. Celebrities Gillian Taylforth (best known for her role on EastEnders), received the treatment ahead of her 60th birthday and Meg Matthews received the treatment to reclaim her confidence after menopause left her feeling flat.

Our Doctors provide the treatment from SKYN in Subiaco. For more information contact SKYN or Book a Consultation online.
