Jenny’s Dermamelan Diary
Dermamelan Peeling Perth
Hi, I’m Jenny, and I’m a Therapist here at SKYN.
Before we go into the nitty gritty. I think it’s important to give you a good background into my skin.
As a Therapist, and working in this industry. I of course, like to look after my skin. I have done everything from your basic Micro’s to your heavy-duty IPL. I personally do not like to wear a lot of makeup, so keeping my skin nice and fresh is a must for me.
In all the different facials I have done, I find peels work brilliantly for me. I love the visual effect of seeing all the dead, dull skin just shed away, and what is left is a nice clean, glowing surface!
When I heard about Dermamelan Peeling, I was very keen. I think it is important to give your skin a good workout every couple of months, just to let it know who’s boss.
Dermamelan did just this!
What is Dermamelan Peeling?
Ok, so before we go into it. I think its good for you to have a good understanding about Dermamelan.
Dermamelan is the world’s number 1 peel in the world for depigmentation and is compatible with any skin colour. It works by reducing any sort of skin discolouration caused by, sun exposure, hormones, menopause and any sort of trauma to the skin, such as acne.
It is most commonly used for people who are suffering from Melasma, Chloasma or Hyper-Pigmentation.
How it the Dermamelan Peel Works
Dermamelan is a Tyrosinase inhibitor, responsible for the production of Melanin in our skin. Melanin is the determinant of skin colour, hair and eyes. The ingredients found in Dermamelan (Ascorbic Acid, Phytic Acid, Kojic Acid, Retinyl Palmitate, Titanium Dioxide and Arbutine) block this enzyme, and therefore give our skin a very depigmentated, glowing surface.
My Journey
Ok, so here is my skin under a wood lamp.
A woods lamp is an ultraviolet light, which allows you to see things that the naked eye cannot. This is a good way of knowing what is really going on in your skin. As you can see, I have A LOT of epidermal pigmentation going on. This horrified me!
I grew up in a cold, damp climate. You guessed it, Ireland! We get maybe a week of good weather, and by good, I mean high teens! I’m religious with my sunblock, I don’t sunbath, and if I go for a walk, I always wear hats and shades, so this for me was a huge eye opener of how damaging Australia’s sun is.
All applications will take place here in clinic, and will be carried out by either myself or another Therapist.
After we have applied the peel, you will have to leave it on the skin for 8 – 12 hours, depending on your skin color. You of course do not need to stay in the clinic all this time. We simply apply the peel and send you home. The peel is brown in color, so you might want to stay inside for the day! After your 8-12 hours is up, you simply wash it off and apply your home care. Home Care is a targeted at home skin routine including Maintenance cream, vitamin E moisturiser, cleanser and toner. All your homecare is included in the price of treatment.
Lets Begin!
Below is what the Dermamelan peel looks like on the skin. As you can see, it is very dark, and quite noticeable. I am fair skinned so process time for me was 8 hours.
While the peel was on, I felt slight warmth to my face, nothing major.
This was my skin after I washed the peel off. It was a little warm, but otherwise it felt ok.
I put on my Dermamelan maintence cream and my Vitamin E moiserizer after I washed the peel off.
I woke up to nice puffy, red, warm skin. Very sensitive to touch and very tight.
I washed my skin with the hydra milk, and toned. The toner really stung my skin. I put on my sunblock, follwed with my maintence cream and moiserizer. I will do the maintence cream and moisterizer twice again today.
I looked a bit scary on day 2. This was my worst day. My skin was so tender to touch, and extermely tight. I was afraid to laugh, as I felt as though my skin would rip if I opened my mouth too wide. And as you can see, very swollen. I got a few strange looks in Coles that evening! That night, I had to change my pillowcase and put a fleese blanket over it, as the pillowcase was too rough on my skin (its 1000 thread count) – this was not a fun day!
This is really when the magic started to happen!
On day 3, some of the swelling had gone down. I really shed this day, and not little flakey bits, sheets! As I was cleansing, my skin was rolling off into my fingers. You can see in the picture the colour of the old, tired skin coming off, its yellow! How gross! My skin still felt very tight and tender to touch, but not as bad as day 2. My skin also was very itchy. By the end of this day, I had to change my bed clothes and hoover my entire house, as there was skin EVERYWHERE!
More peeling again today. It is not as tender or as tight today. The redness also seems to be fading from skin. The main thing at the moment is the shedding and also the itching. My chin also started to peel again in the afternoon, very scaly, like a snake.
Still slight shedding going on on day 5. The redness is a lot less today. Will bring home a facemask tonight to try and calm it down, as I feel the worst of the shedding is over. It is still very itchy. Trying not to scratch too hard was the hard part for me. Still feels a little tight, but nothing major. Overall, I feel like I’m over the worst of it, and skin seems to be settling down.
Massive difference in skin on day 6. The facemask I applied the night before seems to have subsided the redness. Still some shedding, not very recognizable. I got very excited this day, as even though there was some redness to my skin, I could tell I was getting a really good result. My skin was clear and had a definite glow. It seemed to get less red and more glowing as the days went on.
My skin was glowing on day 7. Feels a little dry, but nothing major. I will start applying the maintenance cream only twice a day now, and then next week, only once a day. My skin is so much brighter, and looks so healthy. Still a little itchy.
Here are my before and after photos. As you can see by the dates, they are taken 9 days apart, by the same camera, and in the same room.
The photo to the left, is obviously my before. My skin to the right is my after. I think the results speak for themselves! Look at that glow!
BEFORE AND AFTER, UNDER WOODLAMP
And here is my skin under a wood lamp. As you can see, its like a little pac man has gone over my skin and ate all the pigmentation.
I love the before and after here, as it really shows the beauty of Dermamelan. And this is only 10 days after the treatment. I have never had any sort of pigmentation problem, so for me to get such an improvement shows you what Dermamelan can really do!
My skin has never looked any better then what it does at this moment. My skin is still glowing, and it has now been 6 weeks after my treatment. I have applied make up once in the 6 weeks, as I feel I do not need to cover anything at the moment.
Dermamelan completely outdone my expectations, and is now my number 1 facial for bright, healthy, glowing skin!
