What causes spider veins?
There are number of different factors that can contribute to the development of spider veins. Hormonal shifts in women like puberty and menopause heighten the possibility of spider veins, as does pregnancy, although such veins that occur during pregnancy often vanish during the months after birth. Other factors, which effect men as well, include weight gain, prolonged sitting or standing, aging, or a leg injury, excessive waxing and, of course, there is always heredity. It is less frequent to see the development of spider veins in males versus females.
They are common in the legs because of the fact that blood flow must work against gravity to travel back up to the heart, and may occur as a result of hormonal changes, pregnancy, obesity, sun exposure and more.
How do I treat my Spider Veins?
If you think you have spider veins, the first step is to set up a consultation where we will examine your legs for vein problems, map out a treatment strategy, discuss your expectations, and go over specific treatment opportunities. Usually the appearance of unsightly veins can be diminished through the use of laser treatments, which consist of about 6-8 treatments to achieve optimal results to the specified area. During treatment, no anesthetics are required and the laser treatment is a non-surgical procedure.
Am I a candidate for a spider vein removal treatment?
The majority of our clients are women between the ages of thirty and sixty, though women as young as eighteen and men of all ages have treatments performed, but in much smaller numbers. Laser treatments are not right for everyone, varicose veins and even certain spider vein patterns cannot be treated. At SKIN by SKYN® we pride ourselves on giving clients realistic expectations. At your consultation we will evaluate your needs and offer you customised treatments plans – for real results.
What should I expect during and after treatment?
Depending on your unique needs and the severity of your spider veins, a typical Laser Spider Vein treatment can take anywhere from a few minutes and up to an hour. You will see a gradual minimization of the appearance of your spider veins with each treatment session. Most of our clients require 6-8 treatments for optimal results.
Most clients experience a high degree of satisfaction with the treatment and relief at no longer having to hide unsightly veins. The treated areas are noticeably clearer and in most cases the skin continues to improve with each successive treatment.
Will my spider veins come back?
Laser Spider Vein treatment is a permanent solution; however, it won’t stop new spider veins from forming. You can lower your risk of developing spider veins by getting enough exercise, maintaining an ideal weight, and controlling hormone fluctuations with medication.
How to prevent spider veins?
While there is no sure way to prevent spider veins from developing, there are certain life modifications that can help reduce the risk of developing this unsightly conditions, including losing weight, exercising regularly, wearing support hoses and wearing comfortable, flat shoes. It is important to move the legs frequently, especially if your job requires long periods of sitting or standing in one place.
