What is lip filler?

Lip filler is a cosmetic treatment that involves injecting a natural occurring substance found in our body called hyaluronic acid that is made into a gel form. This is injected into the lips to add volume, shape and definition.

Benefits of lip filler

At SKYN®, we use premium fillers in our lip filler treatment, giving you amazing results:

  • Enhance lip size and plumpness
  • Define the border of the lips
  • Minimise the look of wrinkles and lines around the mouth, such as lipstick/smoker’s lines
  • Improve lip hydration and moisture levels
  • Adjust lip shape and symmetry
  • Create and shape the cupid’s bow on the upper lip

Common Lip Fillers Questions

Medical advertising regulations prevent all clinics from advertising these treatments by brand name in public documents. SKYN only uses premium quality products. For more information about the individual brands we use, please contact us

Dermal fillers will provide instant results. It is important to remember that there may be some swelling and/ or bruising which may effect this. Filler can take 4-6 weeks to integrate completely in the tissue so final results will be seen at this time

Lip fillers can last for 6 to 9 months depending on various factors, such as what kind of filler you get, how much of it is used, and how fast your body metabolises it. The dermal filler gel will softly integrate into the lip tissue, lasting up to 9 months, and this is also around the time you’d book in for your first top-up treatment!

The short and sweet answer is yes, lip fillers are safe. The procedure is quick and painless, although you may feel a slight pinch upon initial injection of your lips – this is very normal. Your lips will feel tender post-injection; however, most hyaluronic acid fillers contain an anesthetic called lidocaine to reduce any discomfort during the procedure.

Our licensed and experienced SKYN® professionals have undergone rigorous training to ensure the safe and effective administration of lip fillers. We only use high-quality, TGA-approved fillers to minimise the risk of adverse reactions. Our team also provides comprehensive pre- and post-treatment instructions to help you achieve optimal results and reduce potential complications.

It is important to note that the side effects associated with lip fillers are generally rare. Before your treatment, we will provide a thorough consultation to ensure suitability for lip fillers and happily answer your questions or concerns.

The most common side effects associated with lip fillers include the following:

  • Swelling and bruising: After getting lip filler injections, it is normal to experience some swelling and bruising that can last a few days or sometimes up to a week.
  • Infection: As with any injection, there is a small risk of infection. We always use sterile needles to minimise this risk and follow proper sanitation protocols.
  • Allergic reactions: Some individuals may be allergic to the lip filler material used. If you have a history of allergies, please let us know during your initial appointment.
  • Nerve damage: In rare cases, nerve damage may occur, which can lead to numbness, tingling, or other sensations in the lips or surrounding areas.

Although these side effects are highly unlikely, it is important only to receive lip filler treatments from fully certified, highly-trained injectors. At SKYN®, our experts are medically qualified and have a wealth of experience providing lip fillers in Perth. During your initial consultation, feel free to discuss any concerns you have about the safety of lip fillers with our friendly Talent.

It depends on the individual. Some may only want filler to restore symmetry, by adding just a touch. Or a subtle plump. Others desire a more noticeable enhancement.

0.5 – 1 ml should offer a subtle plump. If you don’t feel as if it’s enough, you can always go for a top up on your next session. Our Talent will work with you during your initial consultation to ensure you are meeting your goals.

At SKYN®, lip filler treatments in Perth start from $450 per ml of dermal filler.

We recommend allowing 48 hours before flying with fillers. There is literature to suggest that swelling and bruising can increase under an aircraft’s pressurised cabin. You will also have access to our Talent in the rare case of an adverse or allergic reaction.

If you’re prone to cold sores and are experiencing a flare up, you will need to wait until it has healed. Administering Lip Fillers during this time could cause the virus to spread, or distort the lip.

It is also advised that if you experience tinging, itching, burning or other symptoms to suggest a flare up may be coming within the 24 hours before your appointment you should also wait.

If you do not have an active cold sore you will not be prevented from recieving the treatment.

As soon as you are aware you are pregnant, you need to avoid all Dermal Fillers. You can read more about it

Avoid anything that could thin your blood ― like ibuprofen, aspirin or herbal supplements. These things can make it more likely to bruise. If you’re prone to cold sores, a lip filler could trigger one, so an antiviral medication is often prescribed a few days prior.

Lip injections require minimal downtime. Depending on your situation, you will experience some swelling and bruising of your lips for the first 24 – 48 hours. We recommend resting and rain-checking your social events for a few days after the treatment, as you may feel some slight discomfort. You can look forward to returning to your usual day-to-day activities shortly after your treatment.

To ensure you achieve your dream lips, we recommend avoiding smoking and regularly drinking from bottles or straws, as it can increase lines and wrinkles. Once your lips swelling and bruising reduce, the final result will be visible, and you can say hello to beautiful, plump lips!

But don’t fret if you’re a little sceptical; you’re in the exceptional hands of our Talent, who will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions after your treatment.
