Lip fillers can last for 6 to 9 months depending on various factors, such as what kind of filler you get, how much of it is used, and how fast your body metabolises it. The dermal filler gel will softly integrate into the lip tissue, lasting up to 9 months, and this is also around the time you’d book in for your first top-up treatment!

The short and sweet answer is yes, lip fillers are safe. The procedure is quick and painless, although you may feel a slight pinch upon initial injection of your lips – this is very normal. Your lips will feel tender post-injection; however, most hyaluronic acid fillers contain an anesthetic called lidocaine to reduce any discomfort during the procedure.

The most common side effects associated with lip fillers include the following:

• Swelling and bruising: After getting lip filler injections, it is normal to experience some swelling and bruising that can last a few days or sometimes up to a week.
• Infection: As with any injection, there is a small risk of infection. We always use sterile needles to minimise this risk and follow proper sanitation protocols.
• Allergic reactions: Some individuals may be allergic to the lip filler material used. If you have a history of allergies, please let us know during your initial appointment.

We recommend allowing 48 hours before flying with fillers. There is literature to suggest that swelling and bruising can increase under an aircraft’s pressurised cabin. You will also have access to our Talent in the rare case of an adverse or allergic reaction.

If you’re prone to cold sores and are experiencing a flare up, you will need to wait until it has healed. Administering Lip Fillers during this time could cause the virus to spread, or distort the lip.

It is also advised that if you experience tinging, itching, burning or other symptoms to suggest a flare up may be coming within the 24 hours before your appointment you should also wait.

If you do not have an active cold sore you will not be prevented from recieving the treatment.

Avoid anything that could thin your blood ― like ibuprofen, aspirin or herbal supplements. These things can make it more likely to bruise. If you’re prone to cold sores, a lip filler could trigger one, so an antiviral medication is often prescribed a few days prior.

Lip injections require minimal downtime. Depending on your situation, you will experience some swelling and bruising of your lips for the first 24 – 48 hours. We recommend resting and rain-checking your social events for a few days after the treatment, as you may feel some slight discomfort. You can look forward to returning to your usual day-to-day activities shortly after your treatment.
