HOW DO PDO MONO THREADS WORK?

Designed to stimulate natural collagen production, PDO mono threads are an innovative skin treatment leading to skin tightening, thickening, and brightening. This treatment is so effective and popular that it’s been around since the 1980s!

Unlike PDO thread lifts which use long barbed threads to lift tissues, mono threads are inserted in a mesh-like pattern under the skin. The threads are made from polydioxanone, an absorbable, flexible and durable polymer. This breaks down in your body after roughly six months.

The presence of these threads in your skin triggers cells called fibroblasts to produce more collagen. This gradually thickens, tightens, and rejuvenates your skin. The mono threads also act as a support structure for your face, assisting the all-important natural collagen production process.

The treatment is minimally invasive and quick, creating a tightening effect for 6 to 12 months post-appointment. At SKYN, our cosmetic nurses are highly trained and experienced in performing PDO thread treatments. So, if you want to restore a younger look to your skin, book an appointment today!

Your Rejuvenating PDO Mono Thread Procedure

At SKYN, we use PDO mono threads to treat areas of the face, neck, decolletage or anywhere requiring a much-needed boost in collagen production.

A topical numbing cream is applied to reduce discomfort. The treated area may feel tender for a few days after the procedure.

The number of threads required depends on a variety of factors, such as the size and location of the area being treated. A consultation is required before undergoing this treatment to ensure patient suitability and determine the correct amount of threads needed to achieve the desired results.

PDO Mono Threads FAQs

Before the procedure, the treatment area is cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

The PDO mono threads are then inserted into the skin using a fine needle. 20 to 100 threads are strategically placed to create a lifting and firming effect in the targeted area. The procedure is typically minimally invasive and causes minimal discomfort due to the numbing agents used.

Once inserted, the PDO threads stimulate collagen production. Collagen is a protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin. As the threads dissolve, they leave behind a network of new collagen fibres, which helps improve skin firmness and texture.

  • Do not touch the area for up to 12 hours after the procedure. Typically, you can return to your usual skincare routine 24 hours post-treatment.
  • Avoid oil-based moisturiser and makeup for up to 24 hours
  • Avoid smoking for 72 hours post-treatment
  • When applying makeup over the next five days, do so gently in the treated area
  • Do not have any facials or face massages for seven days
  • Avoid strenuous exercise or contact sports for 72 hours
  • Avoid saunas or heat treatments for seven days
  • Avoid submerging under water for seven days, e.g., in a pool or ocean

You can start to see results 10-12 weeks after the treatment. Results last from 12-24 months and will continue to improve over the next 2-6 months as you naturally produce new collagen. We recommend collagen-stimulating treatments every 6-12 months to keep up with the natural aging process.

PDO threads, also known as polydioxanone threads, are a type of non-surgical cosmetic treatment used for skin tightening, lifting, and rejuvenation. These threads are made of a biocompatible material called polydioxanone, which has been widely used in medical sutures for many years. PDO threads are designed to stimulate collagen production and improve the appearance of sagging or loose skin.

The time of your treatment will vary based on factors such as the size of your treatment area and the number of threads used however generally takes around 60 minutes.

Recovery time for PDO threads is minimal. Mild bruising, tenderness and swelling are expected and will resolve over a few days to weeks – requiring minimal downtime from your daily activities.

The cost of PDO thread lifts depends on the amount and type of threads used for your treatment. To determine the number of threads and type of threads required, we recommend booking a consultation with our highly experienced Talent.

  • Avoid alcohol and smoking for 72 hours pre-treatment
  • Avoid scheduling your procedure one week before a special occasion or event
